Dream Myth and The Psyche
Pauline Rignall
19 October - 16 November
Opening 7:30pm Friday 18 oct
Artist talk 2nd November 2pm
In Greek mythology, Hypnos and his twin brother, Thanatos lived in a cave in the underworld. Hypnos has the ability of flight and has divine authority over sleep. He is a gentle God who exists in the space where day and night meet. This is the starting point for Pauline Rignall's journey in recording her dreams over many years. The fascination with the poetry and images arising from the dream world has helped fuel her creativity.
Pauline's attention is focused on the descent into the underworld of dreams and the unconscious, as a balance to our cultures over emphasis on the ascending, and Herculean aspect of our nature.
By descending into the invisible matrix of the deeper levels of the psyche and touching on the feminine power, the wisdom of the Black Goddess, she hopes to regain the wonderful interaction of the invisible energies between day and night.
