I predominantly use spray paint, stencils and acrylic to create artwork on canvas and paper. Rather than a usual stencil artist who has an idea of what they want to create and makes their stencils accordingly, I work the other way around. I have a large collection of laser cut plywood stencils of different shapes and patterns and I use these to create my compositions.
The main subject of my work is cities, both the ‘bright lights’ and urban decay. I am interested in the idea of what a city is past being a collection of structures. They grow and change, they are never complete, they hold a multitude of contradictions, all the extremes of human life happen in cities, they are something we all understand, but have different relationships with. Some parts of my paintings look shiny and bright, others are worn and tired, yet they all live together in the same composition. It is my own version of 'Street Art'. I use the techniques and materials of typical street art to paint what I think the streets are from a conceptual view point, rather than a literal one.
